I just returned from a trip home, where I spent some time with my aging mother, and then with a brother who has been on the outs with me ever since he joined the Tea Party. It was a really good trip & some version of the metta prayer looped through my head the whole time.Kerryhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15281288495129054688noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8307506631340600983.post-46167184781064761142013-07-30T15:25:59.983-04:002013-07-30T15:25:59.983-04:00STroke also runs in my family.STroke also runs in my family.Reya Mellickerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13076092659507965666noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8307506631340600983.post-43058223468865013272013-07-30T15:25:40.304-04:002013-07-30T15:25:40.304-04:00Heart disease runs in my family as well. I eat real food and move around every day. I am generally happy and both drink wine and eat dark chocolate. I say the prayer and try to be a nice person.

This is what I can do for my heart.

I'm going to write about it again tomorrow.Reya Mellickerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13076092659507965666noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8307506631340600983.post-13110278997683694822013-07-30T12:20:38.656-04:002013-07-30T12:20:38.656-04:00excellent post. My parents both died from stroke, my sister had a heart attack at 50 so I have been, understandably, concerned about my own cardiovascular system. when a routine cholesterol test showed that my cholesterol had risen above what was then the acceptable level, I went on a statin. I took it for probably about 5 years and then ran out. I have not renewed my prescription and don't think I will. I haven't had any other indications that my heart and vascular system is compromised and reading more about cholesterol and heart disease has made me think that perhaps statins are not as beneficial as we are led to believe.

on another note, I hate low and no fat foods. ick. not food.ellen abbotthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00535475792150335186noreply@blogger.com
